About Dylan

Hi there, it's me Dylan.

I'm a creative problem solver working at the intersection of technology, design, and data to craft meaningful digital experiences. I pride myself on blending my variety of skills from human-centered design to data analysis to software development, communicating effectively with people across all fields, and finding creative solutions to complex problems.

Currently I'm enjoying living in the NYC area as a UI designer / developer at Prudential. When I'm not “making buttons look pretty” as I tell my friends, you can find me roaming around anywhere with my camera, or wishing I was back in the mountains in my home state of Colorado.

My Values

Variety of Perspectives

The more opportunities people of different disciplines and perspectives get to work together, the more thoughtful and complete work they will complete together.

Attention to Detail

Whether it's the analysis of a user testing report, or the padding on a button, taking the time and effort to get the little things right is what sets the groundwork for greater successes.

Universal Design

Designing for anyone helps everyone. When we create experiences that can be accessed and understood regardless of a person's abilities, it benefits all users. Good design is not good, if it is only good for certain people.

My Passions

Design Systems

Having been working on a design system team for 5 years now, I've seen first hand the impact of the design systems I've created. I've grown an appreciation for how a design system can create a foundation for both design and development to improve their work.

Sitting at the intersection of design and development, I appreciate how a design system requires the coordination of the two to create something that benefits everyone.

Designer / Developer Collaboration

Design and development are inseparable. Designers and developers should be the same. More than any work I create, I enjoy being able to work with design and development to help them work together.

Whether it's sitting with a designer to talk about how they could make changes to reduce development time, or helping a developer understand the feedback a designer has left for them, I'm always trying to merge the two together to work from a shared viewpoint.

My Process

Early Development Involvment

When working with a designer, I bring in development to review their work before it is even presented to stakeholders. This ensures that the development feasibility and level of effort is considered before any decisions are made. It also allows the developers to learn the design intention and benefit to the user of the work they're asked to take on.

1 on 1 Design QA

Before any development work is completed, it needs to have final review by the designer. When these reviews involve a designer and developer sitting together to discuss any feedback, it lets both sides understand what the issues are, and how to best address them.

ADA Partnership

I strongly believe that any experience that a user interacts with should be accessible to all users. Before any development work is seen by customers it should be reviewed by an ADA professional, and approved following WCAG standards opens in a new window.
